If you’re embarking on Whole30 challenge for the first time, this Crockpot Whole30 Chili recipe is the perfect addition to your meal plan! Simple, satisfying, and easy prep – perfect for a quick dinner and packing leftovers for lunch. I love all kinds of chili but I wasn’t so sure about a bean-less chili recipe…turns out, I didn’t miss the beans one bit! And if you’re in a time crunch, this recipe can also be prepared in the Instant Pot!
This chili is so good and seriously beyond easy to make. I’ve found that easy, make-ahead recipes like this one are key to Whole30 and any healthy eating plan/lifestyle. Planning and prepping ahead for the week is my secret weapon for staying on track. Every Saturday, I write down my menu and shopping list for the next week (seems if I write it down, I am much more likely to actually do it!) Then I spend a couple of hours on Sunday prepping a few meals and snacks for my family.
Variations on Whole30 Chili
For a quicker version, make the chili in the Instant Pot using the directions below.
Add more veggies if desired – zucchini and riced cauliflower are great options.
Kick it up a notch! If you like heat, add some cayenne, red pepper flakes, or tabasco for a spicier chili.

For Meal Prep, make this chili ahead and portion into these glass containers for lunch all week!
How to Make Homemade Chili Seasoning Blend
In this recipe, I used my own homemade chili seasoning blend. Because I make different varieties of chili so often, I’ve found it easier to make a large batch of my favorite blend to have on hand, rather than measuring separate spices for each recipe. Check out this post for the chili seasoning blend recipe. It really is a time saver and only basic pantry spices are needed.

By the power of math, I give you a single batch of spices (rounded, so it’s not exact):
1 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp oregano
1/4 tsp paprika
1/4 tsp onion powder
pinch of black pepper, or to taste
1/8 tsp salt
Thanks, Nick 🙂
If I follow the recipe above, which seasoning measurements should I use? The ones listed in the original recipe, or the single batch from Nick??
Curious about this as well. Use the one in the above directions or the ones Nick provided? Please clarify!
Hey Kelly – I like to make the larger batch of seasoning mix as indicated in the recipe so that I have it on hand for multiple recipes. You’ll want to use 2.5 tablespoons of the mix for this chili. Hope that helps!
This soup needs an addtional 28oz of crushed tomatoes and at least double the spices. Otherwise it was bland and hotdish-like.
With those changes, it was a delicious, compliant soup.
Thanks.
Beth, thanks for the comment. It definitely is a more broth-like chili. For those who prefer a thicker, heartier chili, I added some modifications to the recipe notes. 🙂
Hi Nikki! I shared this with my newsletter group and posted the link to your web page. Hubby and I made this while on the Whole30 and we loved it!
Barbara, thank you so much!!! Glad you enjoyed the recipe 🙂
You are very welcome! Will be scanning your site for more recipes to share with my readers!
Ok, so I didnt make the homemade seasoning, but I did add ground cumin, onion powder, garlic powder, and chili powder to my crockpot. I also used ground chicken, and it was the BEST chili I’ve ever made!!!! I amazed myself!!!!
Just made this exactly as written. No changes needed! Love the consistency and BAM the flavor is delicious! Thank you!
Thank You, Paula! 🙂

I love your website! I made this chili this evening and used extra spices and additional tomatoes. Would probably add some jalepenos for additional flavor next go-around. I also food prepped your buffalo chicken with whole30 ranch today – can’t wait to try it tomorrow! Thank you for the great recipes!
Thank you Casey! The chili recipe is so versatile…I often change it up too. 🙂 Hope you enjoy the buffalo chicken!
How much is a serving size? 2 cups or 1 cup?
About 1 cup
I love my chilli brothy like this.

Where do you find beef broth with no sugar in it? I looked at every can,or box, even organic and there weren’t any that didn’t have sugar in
It can be hard to find! My local health food store carries Bonafide Provisions broth. Other approved brands are Bare Bones and Kettle & Fire Broth. Thrive Market has the Kettle & Fire as well as their own compliant brand.
Made this twice now and love it… however I added more peppers a mix of them for spice and fresh tomatoes to give it some more oomph!! So good !! Also used the pressure cooker… done in no time !!
Thanks, Deanna! Glad you enjoyed the recipe!
This one looks so delicious! I wanna make this for dinner.
Loved this! I modified it a bit. I used 2 pounds ground turkey with 3 tablespoons chili powder and doubled the rest of the spices you listed like someone suggested and added 10 diced roma tomatoes. Thank you for the recipe. Perfect combo of spices. I never thought of using ground turkey.
I liked this a lot! I didn’t measure the spices- usually don’t, just eyeball things! I did add some cayenne pepper to give it a spicy kick
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
I am on day 30 of my first Whole 30 and this chili recipe was a big part of my success. I made about 6 batches of it during the month for my husband and me. We had it for lunch or dinner with a salad whenever we did not have time to cook. I went on a week-long business trip and made a batch to take with me. The only thing I changed was using Rotel in place of some of the tomatoes to give it an extra kick. This will be a staple in my kitchen for a long time to come! Thank you!
Thanks so much, Patti! Congrats on completing your Whole30, so glad you enjoyed this recipe!
Delicious!!
Definitely a go-to for my Whole30 ! I have made this recipe twice, and it’s one of my favorite kinds of Chili overall.
I did double the recipe (batch cook), and thus added one jalepeno and one more can of diced tomatoes. I don’t mind the chili a little brothy. I also added 1 cup of chopped celery (homage to my Mom’s chili growing up).
I could use some help on the cooking instructions. The first time I made it in a crock pot, and the 2nd time (last night) was in the Instapot. I’m VERY new to using the Insta. I could not determine how to set it into “Manual” setting. I went instead with “Stew/Chili” for 30 minutes, and that seemed to work out very well. Any other suggestions on how to set it? I have a Insta Duo 6 qt.
Hi Jeff, does your pot have a Pressure Cook button? It’s essentially the same as Manual. Use that button for setting your timer!
Ok, thanks!
This word was a good solid recipe that I will make again! I love making my own chili powder!
The ingredient list is all scrambled. May need to be reformatted for Mobile
