We all have our favorite comfort food snacks and french fries are right up there on my list. I find them irresistible and will shamelessly steal them off anyone’s plate. Of course, I try to keep my restaurant french fry portions to a minimum, but I recently fell in love with the Cajun Fries at a local restaurant and decided to make a healthier version at home!

Only 3 ingredients are needed to make this recipe – russet potatoes, avocado oil, and Cajun Seasoning. I like to make my own spice mixes, but you could certainly use your favorite store-bought Cajun blend. I’ve kept this recipe on the healthy side by cooking the fries in the Air Fryer. The result is perfectly spiced, crispy french fries that can be enjoyed as a side dish or tasty snack. These Cajun Fries with Garlic Aioli may taste like a decadent junk food treat, but they are totally guilt free!

How to Make Air Fryer French Fries

Begin by peeling russet potatoes and cutting them into sticks or thin wedges. If desired, feel free to only partially peel the potatoes and leave some of the peel on.

Place the potatoes into a bowl and cover them with cool water. Let sit for at least 15 minutes. This removes some of the extra starch from the potatoes which will result in crispier fries.

Remove the potatoes from the water and completely dry them by blotting with paper towels.

Toss the potatoes with avocado oil and Cajun Seasoning and place them in the air fryer basket. It’s okay if they are not in a single layer.

Cook the potatoes at 380 degrees for 15-20 minutes, or until desired doneness. Be sure to toss the fries by shaking the basket several times for even cooking.

Sprinkle the fries with additional Cajun Seasoning before serving if desired.

How to Make Garlic Aioli

For the base of the aioli, use homemade avocado oil mayonnaise or a store-bought version.

To the mayo, add minced garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, and sea salt.

Mix well and refrigerate until ready to use.

Best Tips for Air Fryer Fries

Completely dry your fries by blotting with paper towels. Removing all excess moisture ensures extra crispy fries.

Use these parchment liners for no sticking and easy clean up.

Toss the fries by shaking the basket several times during the cooking process to ensure even cooking and to prevent sticking.

All Air Fryers are different, so cooking time may vary. Use the cook time indicated as a guide only and check your fries throughout for doneness.

If not ready to serve the fries right away, simply return them to the Air Fryer for a couple of minutes to re-crisp the fries.

Homemade Cajun Seasoning and Other Flavor Ideas

One of my favorite hacks is to use Homemade Seasoning Blends in my cooking. It’s super easy to add great flavor or change the flavor profile in a recipe with these simple spice mixes. I always keep several on hand, including the Cajun Blend, which is a personal favorite because I love spicy food! If you enjoy a savory spice with a little kick, I know you’ll love this blend too!

Feel free to try any of my other seasoning blends for a totally different flavor explosion on these Air Fryer Fries, such as the Ranch Seasoning or Mediterranean Seasoning.

What Makes Air Fryer Fries Healthier than Regular Fries?

This recipe calls for very little oil (only 1/2 tablespoon!) There is no need for deep frying when you have the Air Fryer to do the work of crisping the fries! By making your fries at home, you also skip the inflammatory oils and loads of extra sodium found in fast food fries.
