You know that feeling when you come across a great recipe that calls for a specialty seasoning blend, the ones you never seem to have on hand when you need them? I used to hate when that happened.  Now I keep my pantry stocked with my own homemade blends and they couldn’t be easier to make!  Homemade Pumpkin Pie and Apple Pie Spice aren’t just for baking pies.  I use them in everything, like these Pumpkin Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Muffins and for spicing these Paleo Cinnamon Candied Nuts.

This is also a great DIY gift idea.  Package up a small jar/tin of homemade spices, add some ribbon, and you’ve got a thoughtful, useful, and inexpensive gift!

How to Make Pumpkin Pie Spice

You’ll need just five common pantry spices to make the Pumpkin Pie Spice Mix – cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice, and ground cloves.

Collect your spices and add measurements to a small bowl.  Whisk until completely combined and there are no clumps.

Place spice mix in a small mason jar or container with a lid.

This mix can be stored in your pantry for several months.

Before using, give the Pumpkin Pie Mix a quick stir to recombine the spices.

Apple Pie Spice Ingredients

Only four ingredients are needed for the Apple Pie Spice Mix – cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and cardamom.  Cardamom comes from the ginger family and is optional here, but adds a great depth of flavor to the spice mix.
