I love a good Cream of Vegetable Soup that is packed with nutrient-dense vegetables and healthy fats. I’m always looking to up my veggie intake, and the easiest way to get in a good dose of veggies for me is a delicious savory soup. I created this recipe with those in mind who might have a dairy/gluten intolerance or for anyone wanting to include more meatless meals into their rotation. You’ll need just a few basic ingredients and it can be made in the Instant Pot or on the stovetop!

Yes, only four (4!) ingredients are required for this recipe. I’m not kidding when I say this is one of the easiest and tastiest recipe I’ve shared! Key to this recipe is the homemade garlic salt blend which adds great flavor, and can be used in countless other ways to jazz up any dish. Make a batch and store it in your spice cupboard – you’ll save money by not purchasing a pre-made blend and it’s free of additives.

How to Make Dairy Free and Gluten Free Cream of Broccoli Soup

It’s easier than you think to make creamy vegetable soups that are dairy and gluten free. To achieve a dairy free cream of broccoli soup, I like to use coconut milk in place of any milk or cream. For a gluten free version, skip the refined flour roux and puree the soup using an immersion blender to achieve that familiar creamy texture. If desired, add potatoes to your creamy vegetable soup for an even thicker, cream of vegetable soup.

Variations on Cream of Broccoli Soup Recipe

The great thing about this recipe is you can use virtually any combination of vegetables! I have used a combo of broccoli and cauliflower, broccoli and carrots, and even added potatoes. Try substituting asparagus for the broccoli for a delicious Cream of Asparagus Soup.

Vegetable or chicken broth can be used in this recipe, depending on your preference. Even better, use your own homemade stock!

For a Broccoli Cheese Soup variation that is dairy-free, add 2-3 tablespoons of Nutritional Yeast before blending. Nutritional Yeast is a great alternative for dairy free diets, adding a nutty, cheesy flavor that can be used in countless ways (try sprinkling it on fresh popcorn for a real treat!)

If you don’t want to make the Garlic Salt blend, feel free to substitute it in the recipe with 2 teaspoons minced fresh garlic, 1 teaspoon kosher salt, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper.

How to Make Instant Pot Broccoli Soup

To make this soup in the Instant Pot, simply add all the ingredients to the pot and cook on the Manual setting for 6 minutes. When the cycle is complete, release pressure (or allow for natural release.) Using an immersion blender, puree the soup to desired consistency. If you don’t own an immersion blender, transfer the soup to a blender in batches and puree until smooth. If you prefer some chunks of broccoli in your soup, do not puree the soup completely.

Easy Cream of Broccoli Soup Recipe (Whole30 Paleo Keto) - you won't believe how simple and delicious this Cream of Broccoli Soup recipe is - only 4 ingredients needed and it can be made on the stovetop or in the Instant Pot! Dairy and Gluten Free. 


  • 6 cups broccoli florets
  • 2.5 cups vegetable broth, or low sodium chicken broth
  • 1 cup full fat canned coconut milk
  • 2 teaspoons Homemade Garlic Salt Seasoning


  • Instant Pot
  • Immersion Blender


For the Stovetop

  • Add all ingredients to a large stockpot. Bring to a boil over medium high heat.
  • Reduce heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes, until broccoli is tender.
  • Remove from heat and puree the soup with an immersion blender until creamy.

For the Instant Pot

  • Add broth, coconut milk, and seasoning to the pot. Stir to combine.
  • Add the broccoli to the pot. Seal lid and cook for 6 minutes on the Manual setting. Release pressure manually.
  • Using an immersion blender, puree the soup until creamy.


Homemade Garlic Salt Seasoning Blend Recipe:
3 tablespoons kosher salt
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 tablespoon dried minced garlic
1 tablespoon coarse black pepper
1 teaspoon sea salt
