Homemade Blackened Seasoning Mix (Whole30 Paleo Keto) – a quick and easy homemade blackened seasoning recipe for adding flavor to chicken, pork, and seafood.  Now you can make your own blackened chicken and salmon at home!  Healthier and less expensive than a store-bought mix!

Homemade Blackened Seasoning Mix

My homemade seasoning blends collection is growing!  You know how I love my homemade seasoning blends, right?  I add them to all my favorite recipes and always keep my spice cupboard stocked.  Now I have a new addition to the original nine spices mixes – this Homemade Blackened Seasoning Recipe!

I have always loved making my own spice mixes – it’s more convenient than measuring several individual spices for every recipe and saves me tons of money by not buying store bought packets/spice blends.  I was inspired to make this Blackened Seasoning version by my husband’s love for the blackened salmon and blackened chicken wings at our favorite local restaurant. I knew it couldn’t be hard to recreate these recipes at home, and I was right!  I just needed a good blackening seasoning!

This Homemade Blackened Seasoning is a cinch to make and makes a good amount, plenty for several recipes.  Like every good, blackened spice, it has a good amount of kick from the pepper, but it’s not overly spicy.  It’s perfect for adding great flavor to pan-fried or grilled meat and seafood. What’s in Blackened Seasoning?

You’ll need the following spices to make this blackened spice mix:

  • Paprika
  • Garlic Powder
  • Onion Powder
  • Sea Salt
  • Black Pepper
  • Cayenne Pepper
  • Oregano
  • Thyme

How to Make Blackened Seasoning

  1. Gather your spices.  I like to stock up on my bulk spices from Thrive Market.  Their products are organic and I can usually get them cheaper than at the grocery store!
  2. Combine the spices in a small bowl and mix well.  Pour into a mason jar or other air tight container.  Store in your spice cupboard.
  3. Before using, always give the mix a stir.  Spices will tend to settle.

Best Ways to Use Blackened Seasoning Mix

Blackened Seasoning can be used on your favorite meats to add a slightly spicy, rich flavor.  Don’t be shy about the amount; it’s best to use a heavy hand with this seasoning blend!

Coat chicken wings with blackened seasoning and cook in the Air Fryer using this method.

Make Blackened Salmon – sprinkle both sides of skinless salmon filets with blackened seasoning and cook in avocado oil in a cast iron skillet.

Make Blackened Chicken – coat chicken breasts with blackened seasoning and grill until cooked through.

Add to ground beef and make burger patties.
