Homemade Poultry Seasoning Recipe – no need to buy it from the store when you can quickly make your own poultry seasoning mix with this simple blend of six basic pantry spices.
One of my favorite ways to save money and time in the kitchen is to make my own seasoning blends. Instead of buying pricey blended spice mixes from the store, I like to create my own blends to use in all my favorite recipes.
In the past when I came across a recipe that called for poultry seasoning, I would inevitably need to make a special trip to the store. It’s not one of those common blends that I think to restock on a regular basis. Then I discovered that poultry seasoning is just a simple and straightforward blend of six common spices and decided to make my own!
Homemade seasoning blends are convenient because it saves the time it takes to individually measure out several spices. In addition to the poultry seasoning, I make a taco/fajita blend, mediterranean blend, Cajun blend, and all purpose seasoning among others. With these homemade spice mix recipes, I can quickly add the perfect flavor profile to whatever I’m making! Making your own spice blends is a fun project and is a great homemade gift idea as well.
How to Make Homemade Poultry Seasoning
Just six pantry spices – ground sage, thyme, marjoram, rosemary, nutmeg, and black pepper – are needed to make this blend. Combine all ingredients, stir well, and store in a mason jar or air tight container. Before use, always give the mix a stir to recombine the spices as some will settle over time.
How to Use Poultry Seasoning
Of course, poultry seasoning is a staple in holiday cooking. The most common use for poultry seasoning is for seasoning a turkey before roasting. It is also great on other poultry like chicken, duck, and other game birds. You can use it to season stuffing, and for adding to sauces and meatloaf.
Add it to your homemade gravy using pan drippings.
Use it as a dry rub on turkey cutlets or tenderloin.
Poultry seasoning can also be used to season other types of meat. It is excellent on venison, pork chops and pork tenderloin!
