What Is Thai Peanut Dressing?

Thai Peanut Dressing is a traditional Thai salad dressing made with peanut butter, soy sauce, fresh lime juice, ginger, garlic, and often a touch of sweetness from honey or maple syrup. Coconut milk or water is sometimes added to adjust the consistency. The result is a thick, silky dressing packed with umami flavor.

Unlike basic vinaigrettes, Thai peanut dressing brings a creamy texture that clings beautifully to vegetables, noodles, or proteins. It’s inspired by the bold Thai flavors but can be easily customized to suit different dietary needs and spice preferences.

  • you can whip it up at home in minutes with pantry staples

  • Unlike pre-made bottle dressings and sauces, it doesn’t contain excessive amounts of sugar, salt, and preservatives

How to Use Thai Peanut Salad Dressing

The versatility of Thai peanut dressing makes it a kitchen staple. Here are some delicious healthy ideas:

1. Salad Dressing

Try it drizzled over this Thai Crunch Salad, Asian Turkey Lettuce Cups, or this Asian Salad for maximum flavor intensity.

2. Noodle Bowls

Toss it with cooked rice noodles, soba noodles, or even zucchini noodles for a quick and flavorful dish. Add rotisserie chicken and top with crushed peanuts, fresh cilantro, and lime wedges.

3. Grain Bowls

Use it as a sauce for quinoa or brown rice bowls loaded with veggies and protein. It ties everything together beautifully for a complete meal.

4. Marinade or Dip

Use it as a marinade for grilled meats (pork or chicken) or a dipping sauce for spring rolls, dumplings, or raw veggies.

5. Sandwich Spread

Elevate your sandwiches or wraps by using a thin layer of Thai peanut dressing instead of mayonnaise.

Tips for the Best Thai Salad Dressing

  • Use fresh lime juice rather than bottled for the brightest flavor.

  • Adjust the thickness: Add more water for a pourable dressing or less for a thicker dip.

  • Taste as you go: Everyone’s palate is different; tweak the seasoning to get the perfect balance for you.

  • Spice it up: Add crushed red pepper, chili garlic sauce, or fresh chopped chilies if you love heat.

  • Storing: To store this dressing, keep in an airtight container (such as a mason jar) in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
