Easy Air Fryer Rotisserie Chicken – perfectly seasoned with a crispy skin, this no fuss rotisserie chicken recipe is budget friendly and requires minimal prep!
If you own an Air Fryer, you probably already know it can work magic on simple cuts of meats, especially chicken. One of my favorite things to cook in the Air Fryer is chicken wings because they come out so incredibly crispy with none of the oil! Well, if you’ve wondered if you can cook a whole chicken in the Air Fryer, the answer is absolutely!
With a simple spice rub, you can have a crispy and juicy rotisserie chicken on the table in under an hour! This recipe is totally hands off, is perfect for family dinner, and makes great leftovers. It’s also budget friendly – you can even make a delicious homemade chicken stock with the bones!
Benefits of Homemade Rotisserie Chicken
Why is this Air Fryer Rotisserie Chicken better than a store-bought rotisserie? While the grocery store rotisseries are ultra convenient, most contain an injected solution that is very high in sodium and MSG. I’m always a fan of making my own homemade versions of convenience items whenever possible in order to control the quality of ingredients. Luckily, this recipe for Air Fryer Rotisserie Chicken is super easy to throw together and requires very little effort!
Ingredients
1 (3.5-5 lb) whole chicken (organic if possible)
Avocado Oil Spray
Air Fryer Rotisserie Chicken Variations
In place of the Homemade Seasoned Salt, try any of my Homemade Seasoning Blends or one of these spice mixes:
Lemon Pepper Rotisserie Chicken: use this Lemon Pepper blend
Blackened Rotisserie Chicken: Homemade Blackened Seasoning
Smoky Rotisserie Chicken: Smoky Dry Rub Seasoning
Savory Herb Roasted Rotisserie Chicken: Homemade Poultry Seasoning
How to Cook a Whole Chicken in Air Fryer
To begin, prep the whole chicken by removing any innards and patting the skin dry completely with paper towel.
Sprinkle the entire bird with the seasoning and rub it evenly all over the skin.
Place the chicken breast side down in the basket of the air fryer and spritz the skin lightly with avocado oil spray.
Cook for 25 minutes, then flip the chicken and cook for an additional 20 minutes (or more depending on the size of the bird) or until internal temp reaches 165 degrees.
Tips
Tie the chicken legs together with butcher twine -although it’s not necessary, it can make the bird fit better and is a prettier presentation!
Use a meat thermometer for checking the temperature. It’s the most reliable way to check for doneness.
Be sure to let the chicken rest after cooking for at least 10 minutes for maximum juiciness.
What Size Chicken Fits in an Air Fryer?
Every brand/version is different, but in general, a 3-5 lb whole chicken will fit in most Air Fryers. My Go-Wise 5.8 quart Air Fryer can comfortably fit a whole chicken that is up to about 4.5 lbs.
How Long to Cook a Whole Chicken in Air Fryer
Air Fryer whole chicken cook time is about 15 minutes per pound. The chicken should be flipped after 20-25 minutes, then cooked until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees using a meat thermometer inserted at the leg/thigh joint.
3.5 lb whole chicken Air Fryer cook time: 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes
4 lb whole chicken Air Fryer cook time: 350 degrees for 60 minutes
5 lb whole chicken Air Fryer cook time: 350 degrees for 60-75 minutes
